Play Time Card Extended Description - Mermaids and Dolphins Oracle Cards by Doreen Virtue

When I tell people they need more playtime in their day, it’s always the same deep breath and eye roll. People rarely take the time to play and don’t realize how important it is.

People will tell me, “I don’t have time to meditate; how am I going to find time to ‘play’?” But, I would argue that playtime is maybe even more important than meditation time. As the description for this card says, “Playing is a magical form of meditation …” Doreen explains how playing actually opens your heart chakra, and this draws more positive energy toward you. When you bring joy into your life, that joy is a magical manifestation of positive energy. Not only does play open up your heart chakra, but it also sidetracks your ego long enough to allow possibly unexpected Divine wisdom to enter your conscious awareness.

“Playing is a magical form of meditation …”

If you are getting this card, it’s time to dust off your inner child. Get out of your rut and day-to-day same old routine, and allow yourself to be silly and joyful. Children are much more in tune with that spiritual side of themselves, so it does make sense that connecting to that playful side of ourselves will also connect us with the Divine part of ourselves that we keep locked away while we are going about our daily lives, living out of habit rather than out of joy. Don’t you think it’s time to play?

5 Great ways to play …

  1. Play with your kids; they will teach you how to find joy.
  2. Play with your pets. Pets are wonderful for healing our energy and giving us unconditional love.
  3. Get out your crayons or pencils and color. Mandalas are a wonderful example as well as a great meditation tool.
  4. Play games or even video games.  Yes, many adults play video games, and this can be a great way to bring joy into your life, but the ones that will give you the best “play energy” will be more fun and relaxing rather than competitive or frustrating.  Or better yet …
  5. Play outside. Being out in nature also has the added benefit of sunlight and oxygen. Go swimming, throw a ball around with your kids or even your pet, go to the park or enjoy any other number of countless outdoor activities.

How do you play?  Please share your ideas in the comments section below.  🙂

    Hi Caroline,

Thank you for writing. A puppy is certainly an excellent source of playtime! Teaching is definitely not a 9-3 job; you sound like you’ve got a lot on your plate, but it’s great that you force yourself (or maybe puppy forces you) to take time out to play. Good for you! I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying my website. 🙂

    Hi Rev. Sheri

This year I am completing my Masters in Education (Student Wellbeing) whilst working fulltime as a teacher (which surprising to some – is not a 9-3 job) and i just received this card telling me I need to play. I sat at my computer today to write one of my 3000 word essays due in my school holidays (I live in Australia). As much as I also feel (like Lydia) that I don’t have time to play, I have an 11 week old labrador puppy (that comes to school with me as a class pet) and I have no choice but to play. I love it even though I must say that I sound like I am talking to a baby. I definitely use baby talk to communicate with my puppy and despite the extra workload and lack of sleep, I wouldn’t trade her for all the money in the world. She forces me to play and brings me so much joy. Thank you for your wonderful website. When I am feeling a bit down I turn to your site and am always uplifted (although sometimes a little surprised at the accuracy and ideas). Thank you again and good luck to Lydia, I hope she finds some financial relief and joy in her life.

    Hi Lydia,

Playtime isn’t about making bills go away; it’s about changing your own energy into something more positive. If you’re always negative, you’re going to attract negative. By lightening your energy, you reduce stress and draw more positive energy and opportunities your way.

I’m not saying to go spend a fortune in Vegas on a weekend vaca, but taking some time out for a bit of fun (ie going to a cheap movie or having some fun with your kids/family/friends/pets) can really make a big difference in how you feel and view life.

Taking time to recharge your batteries (through rest or fun) is important because it makes you more efficient and productive when you do get back to those tasks that need to be taken care of. You will feel more recharged and ready to go. There’s also the chance that taking a step outside that stressful energy will give you insight or ideas you didn’t have before.

Playtime isn’t about avoiding reality but more about understanding that there is more to life than feelings of uselessness and futility. 🙂

What if you’re so deep in money trouble that you’re even beyond the reach of “playtime”? In my attempts, before I even start I am hit with such a feeling of uselessness & futility (wasting time that can otherwise be spent looking for work, or finding some other way to make money). So if I even stick with it, I feel like I’m just numbly going through the physical motions of it, I feel like I’m wasting my time that could otherwise be spent working (or finding some way to bail myself out), leaving me feeling worse than when I started. “Playtime” does not make bill deadlines go away, or make them magically spring forward on the calendar. In fact, they bring the bill deadlines that much closer. How is THAT going to help?

In the same boat but looking forward…yes bills lots of them plus single mom, widowed, 3 kids, injured on job as well. so why not play?! I accept I am here. I know our lives will be better. My family is eternal so why not play, laughter through the tears(there are lots of tears) but if I dont take myself out of my situation , me time, how can I see a better direction? out side looking in may allow for a better view.

You may find a new passion, I found some hidden talents “playing” I decorate wedding cakes, I can also sew and get paid for it.
      you might surprise your self.
