Science and Paranormal Essay

In honor of Galileo, I must offer my humble opinion: We rely too heavily on scientifically known evidence to “prove” what is “unexplained paranormal”- when ironically we are off base to do this.

I have experienced that there are spiritual messages and events that occur every single day – which are VERY real and affect great healing changes, validation and strong transformation within the lives of those who experience the activity. In my educated opinion, and with an advanced degree in science as well – I consider personal transformation and healing as scientifically measurable, and yet another validation of “proof” that something real is actually taking place. We have not yet, as a culture, evolved to the point where all of these unexplained paranormal events can be “proven” with “accepted and known” scientifically approved tools of validation.

If one also believes in a spiritual anatomy as existing- which is not yet reliably measurable by any known scientific tools, than an open mind and respect (at least) for the power of what our minds and spirit do perceive can help us learn more about the paranormal. There are acceptable and measurable studies in existence which support many experiences and are often discarded by people for “lack of proof”. For example, Dr. Raymond Moody in his book Life After Life showed through collected examples from hundreds of patients, that very similar experiences happened over and over with the dying who then returned to “life” – and by collecting these transformational experiences – he also was able to show a scientifically significant (statistically significant and measurable) amount of people who when their bodies died – did experience certain similar events (and psychic phenomena). Which they otherwise could not have known with only five physical senses, let alone with dead five physical senses (i.e. soul travel, astral projection etc) – thus, life after life experiences are not yet a phenomena which can be measured with our known paranormal “tools”, yet this DOES NOT mean it isn’t real or does not exist.

Statistical data is a respected measurable scientific tool. Rejecting the experiences of people in a knee jerk fashion – for “lack of proof” doesn’t serve – in my humble opinion- to help us learn this very unique topic of the paranormal. Exploring what we already know and building from this is what I believe will help. Believing all exist until proven otherwise, is the healthier way to approach this particular topic (once again, my educated and personal opinion – even if you disagree) involving an open minded capacity to also accept studies already in existence that do validate the experiences of children – statistically.

• Taking these and building from them. ** My two cents **
• Remember Galileo was killed for “believing” what others couldn’t see.
• Lifetimes later he was validated.** The “tool” to “see” an open minded culture surrounding his advanced visions and ideas – simply were not accepted, yet.

Statistical significance is also considered a scientific tool, and is something we can also use in the study of paranormal. Collected studies do matter. How we go about studying the experiences can offer much scientifically, and also can be collected from different various hypothesis – from unique and varying perspectives and experiences – our different approaches to scientific data only enhance and assist our learning – it’s very okay to have differing opinions, beliefs and approaches to learning more about this. Just because I choose to approach this topic with a totally open mind until proven otherwise, doesn’t mean that I don’t want it to be proven otherwise.

I see science and spirit – all of this as connected and interwoven. It would be a detriment to our learning curve if every person thought alike.
