5 Habits that Drain Your Energy

from our Angel Messenger Creative Team

When you are beaming with energy, you walk with a spring in your step. You are quick to smile and you feel grateful for all the blessings that surround you. This is how everyone wants to feel.

However, the reality is that most of us are constantly engaging in activities that drain us of energy. The force of habit is hard to break. But becoming conscious of these habits is the first step towards changing your life.

Let us take a look at 5 major energy-draining habits that all of us have engaged in at some point of time in life. Most of us are guilty of at least a few of them.

5 Major Energy-Draining Habits

Comparing Yourself to Others

In a world where social media looms large, it is hard not to compare ourselves and our lives with others. Various studies indicate that social media is a major cause of depression.

I do not agree with this because I think, as with everything else, social media can also be used for good. You just need to be careful about what you are allowing into your energy field.

Allow yourself to get inspired by others. You can create whatever you want if you just choose to believe so. The law of attraction works for everyone. However, when you spend your energy feeling jealous or envious, then you are closing the doors of abundance and prosperity for yourself.

What we wish for others will surely be granted to us. It’s not what we think superficially on the surface that gets manifested in physical reality but that which we feel with all our emotions. If you feel that someone else doesn’t deserve what they have, then you are sending a message into the Universe that you don’t deserve good things.

Instead, feel happy for others. Practice the law of attraction and bless those who already have what you wish to acquire or achieve. In time, your vision will turn into reality.

I read this amazing quote somewhere. Here it is – some food for thought:

“The reason why we struggle with insecurity is that we compare our behind the scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.”

Finding Faults in Others

This goes hand-in-hand with comparing ourselves with others. It’s a way of making ourselves feel better by superimposing our illusory superiority.

Learn to bless others and feel happy for them. You will attract more blessings and greater abundance into your life. No one is better than you nor are you better than anyone. We are all simply a little different, and that’s all. Let us revel in these differences and celebrate our uniqueness by empathizing first with our essential humanness.

Gossiping

There is absolutely nothing worse than talking ill about others. Even if you are not doing it are you allowing yourself to lend an ear to someone who wants to gossip?

Talking about other people is simply not a productive use of time or energy. Also, remember that whatever you are saying about another person, the person who is listening to you will eventually attach those same qualities to you. This is human nature and it has been proven by research.

Become so busy that you have no time to look for faults in other people or even to talk about them.

See the best in others and speak only the very best about others. If someone comes to you to gossip, say a firm but polite ‘No.’ Excuse yourself and walk away – do whatever it takes to protect your energy field. Nothing brings down our energetic vibrations as quickly as fault-finding and gossiping.

Be kind and compassionate towards everyone (including your own self).

Always choose to be the person who encourages others. Stay gentle and talk gently but always stand firm on your principles.

Engaging in Self-Pity

No one wants to be around a person who is constantly feeling sorry for himself. Everyone likes to be around a happy and positive person.

In order to let this habit go, you must understand that we are the creators of our Universe.

Everything that we are experiencing within our field of ‘reality’ is a result of our beliefs and thoughts. You are powerful beyond measure. But you can exercise this power only when you realize that its seat lies within you.

The only person who can help you change your destiny is you. Do whatever it takes to get out of your miseries. Understand that if you have the power to create troubles and hardships, then you also have the power to create everything wonderful.

All you have to do is decide that you are ready to change your life. Take responsibility, and stand up for yourself. The right circumstances, opportunities, and people will show up once you are truly ready.

Not Saying ‘No’

Most of us have a hard time saying ‘No.’ There is nothing worse than agreeing to do something that you don’t want to do. You will inevitably end up feeling resentful and drained.

I would urge you to delve into this a little deeper. What prevents you from saying No? Are you afraid of the other person’s reaction? Do you feel that you won’t be liked? What is it that you want to avoid facing?

It’s important to understand and accept that we can’t please everyone. It is okay if someone doesn’t like our decisions, even if that person is a family member or a close friend. Let go of the need to seek acceptance. Your greatest responsibility is towards yourself. The only person whose unconditional love and acceptance you need is your own.

Next time someone asks you for something, don’t respond immediately. Take your time to think about it. Ask them if it’s okay that you get back in some time. Before saying ‘Yes’ to anything, ask yourself, “How does this make me feel?”

Can I offer this person my time and energy without seeking anything in return (even acceptance, approval, or appreciation)? Do what comes from your heart. This way you won’t have to suffer from resentment.

Closing Thoughts

I hope this article has helped you identify what you can do to preserve your positive energy. Please don’t judge yourself. We are all human, no one is perfect. It is okay to slip, what’s important is to get up and hold ourselves up to a higher ideal and a greater vision for ourselves.

Also, it takes 21 days to form any new habit. If you want to change anything in your life, start by practicing it for 21 days straight. If you end up faltering, then count again from day 1. One day you will succeed. The important thing is to not give up or accept defeat until you get what you want.
