I’m still a little taken aback by the week that just passed. I experienced something profound—Christ Himself appeared to me in Lion form. It was real. It was holy. It was awe-inspiring.
And yet, I found myself questioning my sanity.
That’s starting to become a habit for me—ever since what happened.
I know it was real. I know it in my bones. But trying to explain it to those who should love me most leaves me doubting myself. Because the Lion wasn’t flesh and bone—He was Spirit. I felt Him like the air I breathe … invisible, but unmistakably there. More real than a human being standing next to me.
But the days pass. Life resumes. And my left brain whispers, That’s not possible. That didn’t really happen.
I’ve learned that when a woman hears from Spirit, she’s often not believed—especially if what she sees or feels doesn’t fit neatly into religious boxes or medical files.
That was certainly true for me. When I shared my experiences with the staff at the hospital—a Christian hospital, no less—I wasn’t met with reverence. I wasn’t even met with curiosity. I was met with quiet condescension and coded concern.
They told my family that women going through menopause are especially prone to this kind of “spiritual confusion.” That what I described could easily be explained by hormonal shifts. They didn’t honor the possibility that I had truly encountered something sacred. Instead, they reduced it to brain chemistry.
As an ordained spiritual teacher and someone who has devoted years to sacred service, I never expected that my connection with the Divine would be used against me.
I wasn’t treated like someone having a spiritual awakening.
I was treated like someone having a breakdown.
And that’s not just dismissive. It’s dangerous.
Because the harm didn’t end with what they said—it continued in what they did. Instead of listening, they medicated. I was given psychoactive drugs—without explanation, without my full consent. I was never told what they were or why they were given to me. And the side effects were extreme.
They didn’t ask about my spiritual experiences.
They didn’t ask why I was grieving.
In the end, all they had to say was that I was “depressed.”
(As if losing my beloved dog—my soul companion of nine years—should have had no effect on my spirit.)
And their final conclusion? That a lack of estrogen was the root cause of my spiritual visions.
Not the presence of God.
Not the movement of Spirit.
Just a hormonal glitch.
They didn’t just dishonor me.
They dishonored God. They dishonored Christ.
But the Divine is never far. Even in the midst of confusion and desecration, Spirit finds a way to speak.
The very day I found myself defending Native spirituality—publicly, boldly—a Native-themed angel card posted to my Facebook page on its own, part of my pre-scheduled content. The message? It spoke of the golden thread of intuition—a clear affirmation of the guidance I had followed and the voice I was honoring.
Accident? No.
It was a whisper from the Divine. A confirmation. A reminder: You’re not crazy. You’re listening.
For centuries, women who’ve listened have been called unstable, emotional, delusional. We’ve been diagnosed with hysteria. Locked away. Silenced. Today, they use different language—hormonal imbalance, menopausal delusion—but the impact is the same. Our spiritual gifts are labeled as liabilities. Our connection to the Sacred is treated as sickness.
It’s not just a personal wound. It’s a collective one.
But I’m speaking now.
Because I know I’m not alone.
Because the Lion of Judah did walk beside me.
And no institution can take that truth from me.
This blessing is for you—and for every woman who’s ever been dismissed, diminished, or disbelieved for hearing the voice of Spirit.
A Blessing for the Spiritually Misunderstood
May your knowing never be silenced by their disbelief.
May your vision remain clear, even when the world calls you blind.
When they strip away your sacred tools,
may Spirit clothe you in sacred fire.
You were never fragile—only finely tuned.
You were never broken—only breaking through.
May the Lion walk beside you when you are doubted,
and roar on your behalf when you are dismissed.
And may you rise—again and again—
fierce in your gentleness,
gentle in your fire,
a holy daughter of the Divine.
To the ones still walking through the shadows,
wondering if they’re broken:
You’re not. You’re sacred.
Your intuition is a gift.
And you are not alone.
And if you’d like to help other women rise—women who have been silenced, displaced, or spiritually wounded—consider supporting Compassion Kits for She. These kits offer hope, dignity, and sacred care to survivors of trauma and violence.
