Bridge of Light Guidance:
What Do I Do When I Ask for Guidance
and Hear Nothing?
by Rev. Sheri Spiritual teacher, writer, and founder of Angel Messenger
This week’s Bridge of Light question is one I believe many of us have carried at one time or another: “What do I do when I ask for guidance and hear nothing?”
There are moments when we reach toward the Divine with our whole heart. We pray. We ask for a sign. We look for direction, reassurance, or even the smallest indication that we are not walking through our circumstances alone.
And sometimes, we hear nothing.
No clear answer arrives. No unmistakable sign appears. The path in front of us remains uncertain, and we begin to wonder whether our prayers have been heard at all.
Spiritual silence can be painful—especially when we are frightened, exhausted, or facing a decision that feels too important to make without guidance. We may begin questioning ourselves. Are we missing something? Are we doing something wrong? Has the Divine stepped away from us?
But silence is not the same as abandonment.
Sometimes guidance is present, but it is quieter than we expected. We may be waiting for a dramatic sign when the answer is arriving as a gentle feeling of peace around one choice. We may be looking for certainty when we are being given only enough light to take the next step.
Guidance can come through a conversation that stays with us, an opportunity that unexpectedly opens, or a door that repeatedly refuses to move. It may appear as a thought that keeps returning, a growing awareness of what is no longer healthy, or a quiet inner knowing that does not demand our attention but patiently waits for us to notice it.
There are also times when we are simply too overwhelmed to recognize guidance clearly. Fear can be loud. Exhaustion can make every possible choice feel wrong. When our minds and bodies are carrying too much, the most loving spiritual response may not be to search harder for an answer. It may be to rest.
You do not have to force clarity.
You do not have to interpret every coincidence as a sign or keep asking the same question until you receive the answer you hoped for. You are allowed to pause. You are allowed to say, “I do not know yet.”
When guidance feels absent, return to what you already know.
What choice is rooted in love rather than fear?
What protects your well-being and respects the well-being of others?
What feels honest?
What is the smallest loving step you can take today?
You may not be shown the entire road. Most of us rarely are. But perhaps you can see far enough to make one phone call, ask one question, set one boundary, or give yourself one more day before deciding.
Sometimes that is how guidance arrives—not as a map, but as enough light for the next few feet of the journey.
If you have asked for guidance and heard nothing, please do not believe that you have been forgotten. Your prayer does not become less sacred because its answer has not yet become visible. Continue listening, but listen gently. Leave room for the answer to arrive in a form you did not expect.
And while you wait, remember that the love surrounding you has not disappeared. You are still held. You are still accompanied. You are still a beloved child of Heaven.
Perhaps the silence is not empty after all. Perhaps something is quietly taking shape within it.
Would You Like Help Understanding Your Guidance?
If you sometimes struggle to recognize your guidance—or wonder whether what you are feeling is intuition, fear, or imagination—my Understanding Intuitive Guidance course offers a calm, grounded approach to spiritual discernment.
It can help you understand your personal intuitive signals, evaluate spiritual impressions without urgency, and build greater trust in the guidance you receive.
A Prayer for Times of Silence
Father God, Mother God, Light of Christ,
I have asked for guidance, but I still cannot see the way forward. Quiet the fear that tells me I have been forgotten. Help me recognize the gentle guidance already around me, and give me patience when the answer is not yet clear.
Show me the next loving step, and help me trust that one step is enough for today. Hold me in the silence and remind me that I do not walk through it alone.
Bless it be. Amen.
Peace, love and grace,
Rev. Sheri
