Mental Health Tips for the 12 Signs of the Zodiac

Humanity has faced many challenges on the collective level over the last few years, which has effected us all in various ways on a personal level. From the Covid pandemic destabilizing our sense of safety and ability to connect, to global warming and earth changes bringing increased fires, flooding and droughts, to economic fluctuations and job instability that initiates a fear within us regarding our financial security and stability, we continue to be tested in our ability to maintain a balance in our emotional and mental health.
What do we do to stay balanced and grounded in order to move through the difficulties of everyday life with our family, career, financial responsibilities, and personal health? We are all unique individuals with various personality traits, mindsets, belief systems and physical constitutions. This means that we all need unique and various ways to address, and support, our mental balance and well-being.
We can use astrology to understand our own personal needs which can lead us to a better understanding of the different ways in which to find grounding, happiness, wholeness and inner harmony. Each astrological sign of the zodiac has different energy and, therefore, a different constitution and focus.
Fire signs (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) need social experiences, action and movement in their life in order to feel content. Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn) need to feel productive, with practical and realistic solutions to the challenges they face. Air signs (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius) need communication, networking and sharing their ideas with people who are like minded. Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) need regular self-care activities and the ability to connect and help others heal through their emotional experiences.
Here are some helpful tips and guidance for each of the 12 astrological signs of the zodiac in order for you to find your Inner Zen.

ARIES: March 21st – April 19th
Aries is ruled by the element fire and rules the head and face on the physical body. They may be prone to headaches, migraines, sinus issues or high blood pressure. These people are active, energetic, passionate and like to move fast! They can also be prone to lack of self-confidence or “knee jerk” reactions, jumping into situations too quickly without thinking them through.
To find their Inner Zen, these people will benefit from some form of exercise such as running or weight lifting to release some of that excess fiery energy. Head and face massage will soothe the tension created by overwhelming thoughts. And, empowering affirmations can help to boost their self-confidence or provide them with a moment of focus before responding too quickly.
TAURUS: April 20th – May 20th
Taurus is ruled by the element earth and rules the throat, neck and ears on the physical body. They may be prone to sore throats, ear infections, neck problems and thyroid issues. These people are calm, grounded, purposeful, patient and move at their own pace. They can be stubborn, do not like change, may have low self-worth and are concerned about financial security.
To find their Inner Zen, these people will benefit from meditation and mindfulness practices that stabilize them. Tai Chi is especially beneficial because of the slow, thoughtful movements. They should indulge themselves in self-care practices, such as healing baths and massage as they are very tactile people. They enjoy food preparation and gardening as a source of comfort.
GEMINI: May 21st – July 20th
Gemini is ruled by the element air and rules the thought processes, arms, hands and lungs. They are prone to breathing or respiratory issues as well as nervous anxiety and obsessive-compulsive tendencies. These people are logical, analytical and intelligent, but can be scattered, excitable and ungrounded. They are curious, imaginative, excitable and high-strung.
To find their Inner Zen, these people should involve themselves in deep breathing exercises, guided meditations, learning something new or journaling to express their thoughts and ideas. Exercise that allows movement of the hands and arms is beneficial. And, the ability to just get in the car and drive helps to bring them peace as it allows the mind to free associate and think.
CANCER: June 21st – July 22nd
Cancer is ruled by the element water and rules the breasts, stomach and solar plexus area. These people are overly empathic, picking up on other people’s feelings and energies. This can cause emotional sensitivity, upset stomach and feelings of being physically drained. They are loving, nurturing and caretaking with a tendency to be overprotective.
To find their Inner Zen, these people should spend time in or around water, such as the ocean, a lake or a healing bath. it will bring them a sense of peace and calm. Spending time with loved ones and family or beautifying the home and creating a sacred space also activates the energy of balance and inner harmony for them. Healing music, yoga and massage are also beneficial.
LEO: July 23rd – August 22nd
Leo is ruled by the element fire and rules the heart and upper back of the physical body. They can have soreness in the back and issues with the heart or heart chakra, meaning the expression of love in relationships. They are usually confident, inspirational and leadership oriented, expressing their “Light” for the world to see, but can also be gullible and experience a lack of self-esteem.
To find their Inner Zen, these people should spend time out in the Sun, soaking up its healing rays as it will shift their mood towards the positive. Experiencing joy, fun and laughter with friends or loved ones brightens their energy. And, involving themselves in creative or artistic projects or pursuits such as singing, dancing or jewelry making also stimulates them to shine again.
VIRGO: August 23rd – September 22nd
Virgo is ruled by the element earth and rules digestion, assimilation and the intestines in the physical body. These people can experience digestive issues and are also prone to anxiety, over-thinking and mental overwhelm. They are logical, practical, reserved, discerning, detailed and service oriented, but are prone to nervous energy, worry and being self-critical.
To find their Inner Zen, these people should pay attention to personal diet and nutrition, using herbs, supplements, juicing and occasional fasting as a way to stay mentally balanced. Spending time walking or hiking out in nature is calming and soothing to their soul. Having organization and keeping things clean, neat and tidy brings them satisfaction and peace of mind.
LIBRA: September 23rd – October 22nd
Libra is ruled by the element air and rules the kidneys, bladder, urinary tract and lower back. There can be health conditions involving these areas such as frequent urination, kidney and bladder infections and low back pain. These people are sociable, diplomatic, cooperative and desire to have steady and balanced relationships. They can be people pleasers and indecisive.
To find their Inner Zen, these people need to experience a harmonious environment. They need to feel equal and empowered in their relationships in order to stay mentally balanced. Listening to beautiful music, singing, yoga, aromatherapy, shopping, keeping a gratitude journal and peaceful connections with others will benefit their mental health.
SCORPIO: October 23rd – November 21st
Scorpio is ruled by the element water and rules the sexual and elimination organs. There can be health challenges associated with these areas of the body. These people are deep, magnetic, resourceful and good in business. They have a tendency to absorb other people’s energies and emotions which can cause fatigue, irritability, frustration, depression and even illness.
To find their Inner Zen, these people need quiet, alone time to recharge and renew. Learning to energetically clear negative or lower vibrational energies is important. Meditation, rhythmic breathing, healing baths and spending time near water also helps keep them balanced. Taking part in alternative medicine such as Ayurveda, Reiki, acupuncture and flower essences is beneficial.
SAGITTARIUS: November 22nd – December 21st
Sagittarius is ruled by the element fire and rules the hips, thighs, muscles, sciatic nerve and motor nerve action. They could have weak hip joints, liver issues, challenges with addiction and their nervous system is highly sensitive. These people are optimistic, outgoing, honest and inspirational but they can also be judgmental, narrow minded, indulgent and vacillating.
To find their Inner Zen, these people need movement and activity such as sports, hiking, dancing, or traveling. They would also benefit from sound healing, forest bathing, or doing absolutely nothing. CAPRICORN: December 22nd – January 19th
Capricorn is ruled by the element earth and rules the knees, joints, skin, teeth, bones and skeletal structure. They may have challenges with brittle bones or teeth, inflammation in the knees or weak joints and skin conditions such as eczema. These people are practical, organized and goal or career oriented. However, they are subject to depression and workaholism.
To find their Inner Zen, these people need to allow themselves a day off for some R&R, extra sleep, meditation or watching a movie. They should re-work their schedules to bring balance to other areas of their life such as family time, socializing and vacation. Surrounding themselves with people that are vibrant and happy are also beneficial to their sense of well-being.
AQUARIUS: January 20th – February 18th
Aquarius is ruled by the element air and rules the calves of the legs, ankles and circulatory system. They can have challenges with weak ankles or poor circulation which can lead to cold extremities and other issues. They are independent, intellectual, intuitive and humanitarian by nature. Although freedom oriented, they can also be stubborn, impractical and resistant to change.
To find their Inner Zen, these people need to be around like minded individuals who want to make the world a better place. They will benefit from stretching, yoga, mindfulness and journaling their thoughts and ideas. They love the unusual and unorthodox, so alternative healing therapies such as crystals, sound healing, Reiki, acupuncture, aromatherapy and craniosacral will benefit.
PISCES: February 18th – March 20th
Pisces is ruled by the element water and rules the feet, lymph glands, sweat glands, pineal gland and immune system. They can have challenges with corns and bunions, improper immune system response and anxiety. They are very psychic, imaginative and creative. However, they can be moody, ungrounded, lack focus and be prone to hypersensitivity and escapism.
To find their Inner Zen, these people need time out in relaxation in or near water, such as the ocean, lake, river or even immersing themselves in a healing bath. Doing something artistic, musical or creative helps to bring them a sense of peace and calm.
