Power Animals as Spirit Guides

Do you know what your power animal is?

Do you know how to communicate with this special guide?

With your animal’s assistance you can retrieve back lost power (energy) which you may have given away willingly to someone you loved or had a feud with, and now feel as if a part of you is missing; or even retrieve lost vital (health) energy from an accident or trauma . . .

Some traumas in life cause us to protect our gifts (energies) by fragmenting them away from us so nobody can hurt us/those parts of us anymore; shamanism can assist to find these fragments and bring them back.

We really do give away pieces of our heart!

A power animal will connect with you depending on your current life lessons. Each animal has a specific meaning, for example, hawk medicine could represent your need to see things from a keen ‘bird’s eye view’ and would enter your energy to assist you with what you need to go through in order to see the “entire picture”.

A bear could represent the tremendous protective instinct of a mother with her children, and enter your life to help you be a parent, to be victorious in a stressful parenting court battle, or remind you to “grow roots” – connect to nature and self nurture. Bear also indicates how going into your “cave” is healing and important to replenish your inner battery.

Often on a shamanic journey to retrieve my own or someone else’s power animal, as a spirit guide, will present itself in several different visions during a meditation. After about three phases of seeing the same animal appear to me, I know this animal wants to assist as a spirit guide. The animal then guides me to what I need to know about their person . . .

Power animals are just one of the many kinds of spirit guides waiting for our permission to work with us. I love working with mine because every time I close my eyes and enter a shamanic journey I’m blessed by their companionship as I go on my quests! I have learned to trust the guidance and protection they offer – and have been amazed ongoing at the way these animals will connect with me both on the Earth plane and in Spirit.

Recently Sea Turtles came to me in a powerful way – there is no mistaking I am to connect with their medicine on a personal level right now. I feel very blessed and excited to include Honu (Hawaiian word for this amazing Being) in my life’s work.

You don’t need to have a shamanic journey in order to retrieve or connect to a power animal. You can simply ask through prayer, that divine guidance show you who yours is- and allow the images, feelings, and “knowing” to flow to you. Trust your inner guidance (dreams, signs, visions, etc) and connect with your animal as if in an enjoyable fantasy state of mind. Often you may be surprised at the emotional connection that takes place when you invite an animal into your energy space.

You also don’t have just one power animal, and you may not keep the same animal all of your life. The animal that appears to you may not be an animal you even like or expect to have. If you lack a medicine in your life that needs to assist you- the animal that has the energy (medicine you need) will come to you to help.

For example, if you dislike horses but you are offered Horse as your Totem, you may very much need the medicine Horse offers and so your best action is to find a way to spiritually bond with Horse and learn all you can about what is offered through this connection. One of my clients very much disliked horses and was disappointed when one came to her. Yet less than a week later her business became more abundant and went into a wonderful new direction, because of a sudden change of events involving past investments in race horses.

Honor your animal with a picture or representation of her/him in your environment. This could be as simple as a screen saver on your computer, phone, or as elaborate as a giant tapestry in your bedroom. A statue on your personal alter works great too. Ask your spirit animal to protect and guide you – to send you a dream, a “sign” or prompt you- regarding what action you need to take next on life’s path. You can practice connecting to your animal every day in new fun way, while learning how to “listen” to spirit through your power animal.

Power animals change according to the twists and turns of your life’s journey. You may have a significant helper that comes in with you at birth and never leaves, or fades back until later on, returning when you are older. You have the choice to let an animal go and/or add new ones on your journey through life.

It’s all about learning, healing and growing. Power animals are much like Angels in that they love you and want to help – if you simply ask! This journey is yours, your lesson and your chosen path. Your animal won’t control you, ever. Your animal is your assistant to help protect you as you explore your world.

Have you ever had a day, week or time frame, when the same animal popped up in your life over and over again? Pay attention to this. You can google the animal (ie: Rat Power Totem Meaning) and read up about their spiritual medicine – allow yourself to incorporate their medicine into your life.

Have you ever experienced a coincidence regarding any animal . . . one which kept appearing in photos, television, outside your car when you were driving, in dreams, or in random conversations? It may not be a coincidence! These instances indicate that you’re being “paged’ by a power animal!!! It’s exciting actually, and you can connect with them.

Yes, you do have a spirit guide in the form of an animal, and if you so desire, you can learn to connect with, trust, and learn through this powerfully loving Being!
