Radical Compassion: How Love Responds to Injustice

Radical Compassion:
How Love Responds to Injustice

by Rev. Sheri
Spiritual teacher, writer, and founder of Angel Messenger

Written in the wake of rising global injustices and a devastating flood in Texas,
this is a call to remember the sacred power of compassion.

A Note from Rev. Sheri
Some may say I shouldn’t speak on these issues — that as a spiritual teacher, I should stay out of “politics.” But love is not neutral in the face of injustice. Compassion is not passive. Too many spiritual voices have been quiet for too long, and I believe it’s time to change that.

This message is not about sides — it’s about soul. About truth. About remembering who we are and how we are meant to treat one another.

I offer these words as a prayer for healing, a call to courage, and a reminder that radical compassion is one of the most powerful forces we have.

There are moments when the world feels unbearably heavy. When injustice screams louder than truth. When compassion seems lost beneath political noise or drowned by spiritual bypassing. But in times like these, it’s not enough to just feel — we are called to respond.

Radical compassion is not weakness. It is not passive. It is fierce. It is love in motion.

It’s the kind of love that turns over tables in temples. The kind that weeps with those who mourn and stands up to those who harm. It’s the kind of love that says, “Not on my watch.”

This is the compassion we need today.

When we look at the suffering in the world — children torn from their families, people displaced by climate disasters, victims of systemic racism, greed, war, or violence — we cannot afford to numb ourselves. Nor can we use our spiritual beliefs to escape the pain. That is not healing. That is avoidance.

Radical compassion sees suffering and responds to it, even when the people suffering don’t look like us, live near us, or vote like us. It doesn’t ask, “Do they deserve it?” It asks, “What is needed?” And then it moves to help.

Jesus did not build walls.
He broke them down—with love, with truth, with open hands.

He did not put children in cages.
He placed them at the center of His message.

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.”
—Matthew 19:14

But today, we are witnessing the opposite of Christ’s love in action.

Families are being torn apart at the border.
Vital food and healthcare programs are being slashed.
Wealth is being funneled upward while the vulnerable suffer below.

This isn’t just cruelty—it’s the erosion of compassion in real time.

🏛️ The “Big Beautiful Bill” That Breaks the Back of Love

On July 4th, 2025, Congress passed the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.” It dramatically increased funding for mass deportations and immigration enforcement, while cutting vital programs like SNAP, Medicaid, and school meal assistance. It even attempted to block all 50 states from regulating AI for an entire decade—until a 99–1 Senate vote rescued states’ rights.

Worse still, nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates show that this bill could result in 10.9 million to 11.8 million more people being uninsured by 2034 due to Medicaid and Affordable Care Act cuts. That means families—children, seniors, veterans, the working poor—could lose access to healthcare for years to come.

This is not what Christ calls us to. This is not justice. This is not mercy.
This is not love.

🌎 “They’re Taking Our Jobs”—A Familiar Fear, A False Narrative

I know the fears. I’ve heard them in my own family.

“Immigrants are taking our jobs.”
“That’s why our college-educated children can’t find work.”

But I ask you:
How many of us want to clean toilets for cash?
Or work in fields for hours under the sun with no protection, no benefits, no safety net?

These are the jobs immigrants take—not because they’re stealing opportunity, but because they’re surviving.
And despite the myths:

  • Undocumented immigrants cannot access Social Security, food stamps, or Medicaid.

  • They cannot be legally hired for degree-required jobs without documentation.

  • Many are overqualified and underpaid, often doing jobs no one else will take.

They are not the enemy.
They are human beings, made in the image of God.

🤖 The Real Threat to Jobs: Artificial Intelligence

While fear is aimed at immigrants, the real job threat is AI.

The U.S. just saw its lowest job growth in 8 months, and AI is already replacing workers across retail, customer service, content creation, and even healthcare—with job displacement happening faster than regulation can keep up.

The same bill that expanded deportations nearly silenced AI regulation for 10 years—until public outcry forced the Senate to act.

Let that sink in.

We are being told to fear immigrants while automation is quietly replacing entire industries. And the systems meant to protect us?
They’re being dismantled.

📜 We’ve Been Here Before

This fear of “the other” is not new.

It’s been used before—to silence, to control, to justify cruelty. During World War II, when Nazism was rising, our own country responded by imprisoning innocent people—**Japanese Americans**—in internment camps. These families were taken from their homes, their businesses, their communities—based solely on race and fear.

They were called “internment camps” then, but don’t be fooled.
They were inhumane.
They were a national shame.
And many of us were never even taught about them in history class—because the truth was too painful to preserve. Even though it was hidden, America eventually apologized to the abused and made reparations that didn’t even come close to what was lost. Now, history is repeating itself with even greater cruelty.

What is happening now will likely be hidden from history books as well.

But one day, our descendants will ask:

“How did this happen? Why didn’t anyone stop it?”

And what will we say?

Will we say we were silent?

That we looked away?

Right now, our government is diverting funds from healthcare, housing, and food assistance to create a vast and powerful army of ICE agents—not to protect us from terrorists, but to hunt down immigrant families who came here hoping for what we used to promise:
Life. Liberty. Freedom.

Those words are engraved on monuments,
but are they still engraved on our hearts?

Are we still the land of the free?
Or are we no longer brave enough to live by what we claim?

🕊️ Beware False Anointings

There are political figures today being hailed as “Messiahs”—even as they promote cruelty in the name of God.

Let me be clear:
Jesus never aligned Himself with empire.

He healed, He fed, He forgave, He protected.
He called the powerful to account and lifted up the forgotten.

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these… you did for me.” —Matthew 25:40

Power is not proof of Divine favor.
We must be discerning.
We must be faithful to Love, not just loud voices.

🕊️ Radical Compassion in Real Time

In the days surrounding this writing, over 90 lives were lost in Texas due to catastrophic flash floods. While the rain was unavoidable, many of the deaths may not have been. Delayed federal response, understaffed agencies, and layers of red tape—all shaped by decisions made in the name of “efficiency”—meant that help arrived too late for many. This is not just a weather tragedy; it’s a human one, rooted in choices made without compassion. Radical compassion demands that we name these failures, not to cast blame for its own sake, but to hold systems accountable—and to insist that life, especially vulnerable life, must come before pride or politics.

We see it in the families separated at borders.
We see it in how refugees and immigrants are treated.
We see it in how AI is being used in ways that could harm the vulnerable.
We see it in how politicians ignore science while communities burn or drown.

We are not helpless in the face of suffering.
We are not powerless against injustice.

Our compassion — if it is real — must move us.
Move us to pray.
To give.
To vote.
To speak up.
To educate ourselves.
To listen.
To act.

Even when it’s uncomfortable. Especially when it’s uncomfortable.

Not everyone is called to the same action. Some are here to pray, others to write, to protest, to organize, to hold space, to donate. All are needed.

This is not about guilt. It’s about response. It’s about remembering that we are all part of a greater whole — one sacred web of life. When one part is torn or bleeding, the whole feels it. And the whole must respond.

So, we call upon the Light.

We call upon the Christ.
We call upon the Angels.
We call upon the Spirit of Justice and Healing.
And we call upon ourselves.
To rise. To love. To act.
With fierce compassion, holy boldness, and unwavering grace.

Amen. 💔🕊️🔥

💛 What Would Love Do?

This is not about left or right.
This is about what Love looks like in action.

Would Love:

  • Deport parents and warehouse their children?

  • Cut off food and healthcare from the sick and the poor?

  • Invest in power while abandoning compassion?

Love would not do that.

Love would:

  • Feed the hungry

  • Welcome the stranger

  • Stand up for the vulnerable

  • Heal what’s broken

  • Speak truth to power

  • Choose mercy over fear

🧭 Where Do We Go From Here?

You don’t have to be perfect.
You just have to start.

  • Speak up with compassion

  • Learn the truth behind immigration and AI

  • Share light, not fear

  • Vote with your heart

  • Give to causes that serve humanity

  • Teach your children what real strength looks like: kindness

  • And never forget what Christ would actually do

Because in the end, we won’t be judged by how many borders we protected,
but by how many lives we helped heal—
and by how well we loved.

✨ Inspiration for the Soul

I invite you to reflect on this powerful musical prayer:

🎵 “Higher Love” by Kelly Clarkson

“Father God, Mother God, Light of Christ … I’m calling for a Higher Love!”
