ATTRACTING A JOB

On a larger scale, it’s possible to draw to you what you want in the form of a new job.

I was feeling disillusioned by a nursing home RN position and handed in my ‘three week notice’ to end the job. On my last day at work I signed up for a weekend creative visualization workshop being held at Kripalu Institute in Massachusetts. Savings paid for the entire trip as there was no income. I trusted that another job would materialize though I wasn’t actively trying to find one at the time. The workshop went so well that I returned to Kentucky inspired to continue meditation for another whole week.

I read one chapter a day of Anatomy of the Spirit by Carolyn Myss, this was my third read through of her book, and after each chapter I sat in silence and focused on a specific energy center of my body called a chakra. Each chapter outlined the position of meaning of our seven major Chakras, and I’d ‘study’ myself in relation to each one, taking notes and examining my perception of each closely.

Color visualizations offered me an intimate connection to God, who I perceive as a White Light. I spent one or two entire days intentionally focusing on one chakra, and on the day I was to work on my third chakra, representing ‘will and desire’ for things in the material world, I felt motivated to hike alone up a local mountain path nearby.

The spring air felt electric and magical that day and it was as if my higher self was ‘biting at the bit’ to get going. I carried with me a Course in Miracles book and set off in muddy brown boots to the Pinnacle path. Partway up the mountain I veered off the trail to sit on a fallen tree. The woods were calm and formed a protective veil around me.

I sat with eyes closed and opened my thick and heavy Course in Miracles book to a random page. Eyes shut tight, I pointed my finger to the page where it landed on a line in a paragraph. I opened my eyes and read to the place beneath my pointing finger, ‘Ask for what you want with total faith and belief it will happen and all will come to pass’. As soon as I read the words it seemed as if the wind stopped blowing and the birds stopped singing. I sat there in total silence of this new vacuum around me and focused on what I wanted, a ‘perfect job’.

I spoke aloud to the woods: “I want a job with in a supportive environment where I am needed and make a real difference in the lives of others. I want a position which pays well and supports my family, with a perfect family oriented schedule which allows me free time to live a happy and relaxed life.”

I allowed myself to fantasize about the desired job. This only lasted a minute and when my feelings matched the visualization, as if it were really happening, something ‘clicked in’ so I ended the meditation. As soon as I stirred from my fantasy, the air suddenly became vibrant with wind, sounds and life again so I stood up from the tree and walked down the path to my Jeep.

Mine was the only vehicle in the parking lot and I drove home feeling hope and expectation for positive changes to occur in my life. As I entered the front door I noticed my answering machine was flashing with one message:

“Hello, this is Beth from Charter Ridge in Lexington, you sent us an application four months ago and I’m calling to see if you’re interested in a job interview.”

I was taken aback by the speed at which this job had materialized! It was Wednesday and by Friday I’d been interviewed and hired at Charter with a starting date for the following week! I became a charge nurse on a unit of children with psychological issues during hours that fit perfectly with my single mom schedule. As a nurse with a double major BA in child development and psychology, the new position was a ‘nice fit’ in a supportive work environment, exactly as I’d envisioned while sitting on the fallen tree.
