The Quiet Courage of Beginning Again

The Quiet Courage of Beginning Again

There comes a moment in many lives when something no longer fits.
It may be your work. It may be a relationship. It may be the expectations you’ve carried for years, or a version of yourself that once felt true but no longer does.
Nothing dramatic may have happened. From the outside, your life might even look successful. You may still be showing up each day, doing everything that is expected of you.
Yet somewhere deep within, your soul begins whispering,
“There is another way.”
Those whispers can be unsettling. We often wonder if we’ve become ungrateful, if we’re making a mistake, or if we’re simply afraid of change.
But sometimes, those quiet stirrings are not signs that you’ve lost your way.
Sometimes they are signs that you have grown.
When Your Soul Begins to Grow Beyond Its Surroundings
Growth is rarely loud.
It often begins as a gentle discomfort—a feeling that something you’ve carried for years no longer reflects who you are becoming.
Perhaps the work that once gave you purpose now leaves you feeling empty.
Perhaps a dream you’ve pursued for years no longer feels like your own.
Perhaps you’ve discovered gifts, passions, or values that simply weren’t visible to you a decade ago.
This doesn’t mean your earlier path was wrong.
Every season teaches us something. Every chapter shapes us. Even the places that eventually become too small for us often gave us exactly what we needed at the time.
Just as children outgrow their favorite shoes without those shoes ever being “bad,” our souls sometimes outgrow the roles, identities, and expectations that once fit us perfectly.
Growth is not a rejection of the past.
It is an honoring of what the past has made possible.
Beginning Again Is Different Than Starting Over
Many people fear beginning again because they believe it means starting from nothing.
But that isn’t what new beginnings usually are.
You do not leave behind your wisdom.
You do not lose the compassion you’ve developed through hardship.
You do not forget the lessons that shaped your heart.
Every joyful moment, every disappointment, every answered prayer, every unanswered one, travels with you.
You are not returning to the beginning.
You are stepping into a new season carrying everything your soul has gathered along the way.
That is not starting over.
That is continuing your journey.
Courage Often Looks Much Smaller Than We Imagine
When we hear the word courage, we often picture dramatic moments.
Leaving a career overnight.
Moving across the country.
Changing everything all at once.
Yet most lasting change begins much more quietly.
It begins by asking an honest question.
It begins by exploring a possibility.
It begins by updating a résumé, enrolling in a class, making one phone call, or allowing yourself to imagine a different future without immediately dismissing it.
Sometimes courage is simply admitting,
“The life I’ve built no longer reflects the person I’m becoming.”
That admission doesn’t demand immediate action.
It simply creates room for honesty.
And honesty has a beautiful way of opening doors we could not see before.
Heaven Rarely Rushes the Heart
One of the most comforting truths I have discovered is that Heaven rarely hurries us.
Growth unfolds much like the changing seasons.
Spring does not arrive because winter failed.
It arrives because the time has come for something new to awaken.
In the same way, your soul does not need to force its next chapter.
You don’t have to know every answer before taking the first step.
Sometimes today’s invitation is simply to listen.
To notice what brings peace.
To notice what quietly brings life back into your heart.
To notice where you feel most fully yourself.
The path often becomes visible one faithful step at a time.
If You Find Yourself Standing at the Threshold
If your heart has been whispering that something no longer fits, perhaps you are not falling behind.
Perhaps you are standing at the edge of a new beginning.
You do not have to have every detail figured out.
You do not have to know exactly where the road will lead.
You only need enough courage to remain open to where Love is gently guiding you next.
The person you are becoming deserves the same compassion you have offered to every earlier version of yourself.
And that, too, is a sacred beginning.
A Blessing
May you trust the quiet wisdom growing within your heart.
May you honor the life that has brought you to this moment, while remaining open to the life still waiting to unfold.
May fear never convince you that growth is failure.
And if today marks the beginning of a new chapter—whether anyone else can see it yet or not—may you remember that Heaven walks beside every courageous beginning.
In peace, love, and grace,
Rev. Sheri
