Signs of Hope We Almost Missed This Week: Week 1

Signs of Hope We Almost Missed This Week

Why noticing goodness is a sacred practice

by Rev. Sheri
Spiritual teacher, writer, and founder of Angel Messenger

It can feel difficult to hold hope right now.

Many people are carrying exhaustion, grief, uncertainty, anger, or fear about the state of the world. Every day seems to bring another painful headline, another crisis, another reason to feel overwhelmed. For sensitive souls especially, the constant weight of collective suffering can begin to feel unbearable.

And yet…

even in difficult times, small acts of healing continue quietly all around us.

Not loudly.
Not perfectly.
Not all at once.

But steadily.

Sometimes we miss these moments because pain tends to demand our attention more urgently than healing does. Fear shouts. Hope whispers.

But this week, there were still signs of life returning. Signs of compassion. Signs that healing—both human and planetary—is still unfolding beneath the surface.

And perhaps remembering that matters more than we realize.

🦋 Monarch Butterflies Are Returning

This week, conservation groups reported that monarch butterfly populations wintering in Mexico increased by approximately 64% after years of alarming decline.

For a long time, many feared these fragile creatures might disappear entirely.

But life continued trying.

Tiny wings continued crossing impossible distances. Generations continued carrying forward an ancient migration written deep within them.

Sometimes healing begins this way too.

Quietly.
Fragile at first.
Almost unnoticed.

A single moment of softness after a long season of survival.
A nervous system slowly learning safety again.
A heart beginning to open after grief.

Not all healing arrives dramatically. Sometimes it arrives like butterfly wings returning to the sky.

🌊 Parts of the Ocean Are Being Protected

Recently, Ghana established its very first marine protected area near Cape Three Points, helping preserve ocean ecosystems while also supporting more than 20 nearby coastal communities that rely on healthy waters for survival.

In a world that can often feel driven by consumption and urgency, there are still people choosing protection instead of exploitation.

People choosing stewardship instead of destruction.

That matters.

Because every act of protection is also an act of hope.

Every tree planted.
Every species defended.
Every child helped.
Every animal rescued.
Every kindness offered quietly without recognition.

These things may not dominate the headlines, but they are still shaping the world we live in.

🐢 Sea Turtles Are Nesting Again

In Nicaragua, endangered leatherback sea turtles have returned to nesting beaches in encouraging numbers thanks to years of conservation efforts focused on protecting fragile coastal habitats.

There is something deeply sacred about witnessing life return to places once marked by harm.

Nature still remembers how to heal when given the chance.

And perhaps human beings do too.

Many of us were taught to believe that once something is broken, it can never truly recover. But healing is often less about returning to who we once were and more about slowly becoming whole in a new way.

Not untouched.
But alive again.

🧠 Researchers Continue Searching for Healing

This week also brought encouraging developments in Alzheimer’s and dementia research, with scientists sharing growing optimism about future treatments and early interventions now being studied around the world.

Behind every medical breakthrough are human beings dedicating years of their lives to easing suffering.

People who wake up each day and continue trying to help strangers they may never meet.

That, too, is a form of compassion.

In a world where cynicism can sometimes feel easier than hope, it is worth remembering that many people are still quietly devoting their lives to healing others.

Doctors.
Researchers.
Caregivers.
Volunteers.
Rescue workers.
Counselors.
Parents.
Friends.

The world contains far more helpers than we sometimes remember.

🌱 The Light Still Exists

Noticing goodness does not erase suffering.

It does not mean ignoring injustice, grief, violence, or pain. It does not mean pretending everything is fine when many things are not.

But constantly consuming despair without allowing ourselves to notice healing can slowly extinguish the human spirit.

We were not meant to live in a permanent state of emotional overwhelm.

Sometimes, noticing small signs of hope is not avoidance.

Sometimes it is survival.

Sometimes it is the sacred act of refusing to let darkness become the only story we tell ourselves about the world.

Because the truth is:

The world is carrying both heartbreak and healing right now.

Both are real.

But if we stop noticing the light completely, we risk forgetting why healing is worth fighting for at all.

So this week, perhaps we can allow ourselves to pause for a moment and remember:

Some species are returning.
Some people are helping.
Some wounds are healing.
Some hearts are softening.
Some light is still reaching the earth.

And maybe that light matters more than we know.
