Our New Little Friend

We have a new little friend at my house.  It lives on my side porch, has four legs, is furry, and says “mew”.  What can I say?  I am a sucker for animals, and this one is only 6-7 weeks old.  My husband has made it very clear in the past that we cannot have any more cats; we already have three because I took in a stray kitten when I was pregnant with my son.  She was only maybe 5 weeks old at the time.   She ran right into my house.  I gave her some milk, and she was so hungry that she was biting her tongue as she drank – the milk was turning pink!  I called my local shelter who said they would give her 48 hours to be adopted before they would destroy her.  Well, what do you think is going to happen when you tell an emotional pregnant woman that if she doesn’t keep the kitten, it will be dead in 48 hours?

Of course I kept her!  So, back to the present story.  My husband says that I am the crazy animal rescuer and that he doesn’t want anymore cats, but guess who has given our new little friend a name already!  Yes, if the cat trusts us enough to stay and is a boy, his name will be “Indy” after Indiana Jones.  We just saw the movie last night, and my son is in love with the Lego Indiana Jones video game.  So, I guess it fits, and it has been a little over five years now since we took in a stray.  Maybe we’re due?  Of course, if it is a boy, we will also be doing the responsible citizen thing by making sure he doesn’t get all the neighborhood female cats pregnant, so maybe we are just being responsible?  Yeah, whatever I want to tell myself I guess.  The truth is I just can’t say no to a helpless little baby who decided my porch is the place he/she feels the safest out of my whole neighborhood.  Of course, the chicken and milk I keep taking out there probably helps too!  😉
