Gaza Is Starving — And the World Cannot Look Away

💔 Gaza Is Starving —
And the World Cannot Look Away
by Rev. Sheri

There are moments when the suffering in this world pierces straight through the veil — when the cries of the innocent are too loud to ignore, too sacred to dismiss. Critiquing government policies is not the same as blaming a people, and my heart holds grief for civilians on all sides of this conflict.
Right now, the people of Gaza are starving. Not metaphorically — literally starving. Mothers are watching their babies die from hunger. Elders are collapsing from dehydration. Families are digging through rubble with their bare hands in search of food, medicine, and hope.
This is not a political post. This is a human one.
🧭 What About Israel and Egypt?
🇮🇱 Israel
The war began after a horrific Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, in which over 1,000 Israeli civilians were killed and many were taken hostage. This event deeply traumatized the Israeli people.
Since then, the current military campaign by Israel’s government has devastated Gaza. Israel also enforces the land, sea, and air blockade that prevents humanitarian aid from entering — worsening famine and medical collapse.
Yes, Israelis are suffering too. Families are grieving, hostages remain captive, and many citizens are protesting for peace. But military trauma does not justify the starvation and mass killing of civilians. Collective punishment — by any nation, against any civilian population — is not a path to justice. It is a wound upon the soul of humanity.
🇪🇬 Egypt
Egypt controls the Rafah crossing, the only exit from Gaza not overseen by Israel. Yet Egypt has severely restricted this border, fearing a flood of refugees and militant threats.
These fears have led to choked aid deliveries, blocked evacuations, and thousands of civilians dying for lack of access to the outside world.
Egypt, like Israel, must be called to choose compassion over control.
🇵🇸 What’s Happening in Gaza?
Gaza — a small, densely populated strip of land between Israel, Egypt, and the Mediterranean Sea — has been under an ongoing military assault since October 2023. In that time:
-
Tens of thousands of civilians have been killed.
-
Entire neighborhoods, hospitals, and schools have been bombed.
-
The region has been plunged into famine, with blocked borders preventing food, water, and medicine from getting in.
-
Over 90% of the population has been displaced, many multiple times.
-
The few remaining healthcare workers operate under extreme trauma, with no supplies and constant danger.
This isn’t just a humanitarian crisis. It’s a spiritual crisis — one that demands we remember our humanity.
🌍 What Can We Do?
When the pain feels unbearable, taking action can restore a sense of sacred agency. Here’s how you can help:
💸 Where to Donate: Trusted Organizations Working in Gaza
If you feel helpless watching the horror unfold in Gaza, one of the most effective things you can do is support the people already on the ground — delivering food, water, medicine, and hope in the most dangerous and devastated places.
Here are five well-established organizations risking everything to bring food, medicine, and care into Gaza:
🕊️ UNRWA – United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East

👶 PCRF – Palestine Children’s Relief Fund

🌱 Anera – American Near East Refugee Aid

🚑 Doctors Without Borders (MSF) – Médecins Sans Frontières

When you donate to these organizations, your support becomes medicine, food, clean water, and safety. Every donation — even $10 — can mean the difference between life and death.
📢 2. Use Your Voice

✨ A Prayer for Gaza
May the hungry be fed.
May the wounded be healed.
May the frightened be held in Divine embrace.
May the blockade be broken by mercy,
And may the world remember that we belong to each other. We call in justice. We call in peace.
We call in the Light that protects the innocent and humbles the proud.Amen.
🙏 Final Thoughts
Starvation is not a byproduct of war — it is a weapon being wielded against civilians, and the children of Gaza are dying. As people of compassion and conscience, we must not look away. We must speak. We must demand that every child, every family, every human being be treated with dignity and care — not as collateral damage, but as sacred lives.
This is not just a political crisis — it is a soul-deep fracture in the collective heart of humanity. The people of Gaza are not numbers. They are mothers, fathers, children, artists, teachers, dreamers. And they are calling out. And if we hope to heal our world, we must begin by refusing to accept the deliberate starvation of a people as anything less than a moral and spiritual emergency.
Let us not be silent.
Let us not look away.
And may every act of compassion — every donation, every prayer, every post — become part of a sacred river of mercy.
