Making Room for Joy, Making Room for Miracles
Making Room for Joy,
Making Room for Miracles
by Rev. Sheri Spiritual teacher, writer, and founder of Angel Messenger
Sometimes we become so focused on getting through life that we forget to enjoy being here.
There are responsibilities to manage, people to care for, and things that need our attention. Even when we have a little time to ourselves, our minds may keep running through everything we should be doing.
But what about the things we simply love?
The things that make us smile. The things we look forward to. The small pleasures that help us feel a little more like ourselves.
I believe these moments have spiritual significance. Joy invites the energy of miracles into our lives. It opens something within us—a willingness to receive, to wonder, to notice goodness, and to imagine that something beautiful might still unfold.
The Simple Things That Bring Me Joy
For me, joy often comes through very simple things: a cup of tea, getting my nails painted, spending time in nature, my son coming over, or being with my pets.
I love having something small to look forward to. A pretty color on my nails can make me smile throughout the day. A cup of tea gives me a moment to settle and enjoy what is right in front of me.
When my son comes over, I get to enjoy his company and the ordinary gift of spending time together. With my pets, there are moments of affection and funny little things they do that pull me out of whatever has been occupying my mind.
And nature offers so much to notice: the changing leaves, the light through the trees, the way the seasons keep creating something new.
These moments matter to me. They bring me back to the goodness that is still here, even when there are worries on my mind or things left unfinished.
They remind me that my life contains more than what needs to be managed.
You Are Allowed to Enjoy What You Love
Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to justify how we spend our time.
A hobby should become a business. Something we make should be useful. Time spent playing should teach us something. Even a peaceful afternoon can start to feel like something we need to defend.
But something does not have to heal you, teach you, earn money, or help someone else to deserve a place in your life.
You can enjoy it because you enjoy it.
You can paint something without selling it. Play a game because it is fun. Watch a favorite movie again. Choose a nail color that makes you happy. Sit outside and listen to the birds without turning the moment into a practice or a lesson.
There is value in having experiences that belong to you simply because you love them.
And you do not need to finish every responsibility before you are allowed to have one.
How Joy Opens Us to Miracles
When I speak about the energy of miracles, I am speaking from my own spiritual understanding: joy helps our hearts become receptive to possibility.
When we are consumed by worry, our attention can become tightly focused on what might go wrong. A moment of delight gives us a little room to breathe. We might notice something lovely, feel inspired to create, or find ourselves reaching out to someone.
We may remember a dream we had set aside. We may see an opportunity we had overlooked. We may feel enough curiosity to try something new.
I believe the Divine can meet us in that openness.
Sometimes the moments that change us begin very quietly. A conversation happens because we decided to go somewhere we enjoy. An idea arrives while we are doing something creative. A moment with someone we love reminds us what we want to make more time for.
We cannot arrange every outcome. But we can welcome experiences that make our hearts feel alive.
For me, that is part of making room for miracles.
Joy and Sorrow Can Share the Same Day
There are days when joy feels far away. If you are living with grief, pain, or uncertainty, you may wonder whether this invitation is even meant for you.
It is—but gently.
You do not have to make yourself cheerful. You do not have to feel happy to deserve love, care, or blessings. Difficult circumstances are never proof that you have failed to create enough joy.
Sometimes a moment of pleasure comes while something still hurts.
You might laugh with someone and cry later. Enjoy your tea while waiting for difficult news. Feel grateful for your pet’s company on a day when your body is struggling.
You are allowed to receive those moments fully. They do not diminish the seriousness of what you are facing.
You do not have to choose one emotion to represent your whole life.
If joy is too much to reach for today, perhaps there is something that feels comforting, interesting, or pleasant. That is a place to begin, too.
Let Yourself Look Forward to Something
One gentle way to welcome more joy is to give it a place in your week.
Ask yourself:
What would I enjoy making room for?
Try to answer before your mind starts evaluating whether it is productive or worthwhile.
Maybe you want to spend time with someone whose company you love. Maybe there is a book you want to read, a recipe you want to try, or a creative project you want to return to.
Perhaps you would enjoy choosing a favorite mug and taking a few minutes with your tea. Perhaps you want to watch the leaves outside your window or spend a little time playing with your pet.
Choose something that fits your energy, your circumstances, and your life.
It does not need to become another daily goal. You can simply give yourself permission to enjoy it when the opportunity comes.
A Little More Room for Goodness
I want to remember to make room for the things I love while I am living this life.
There will always be something else to do. There will always be concerns that deserve attention. And alongside them, there can be tea, laughter, beautiful colors, animals we adore, and time with the people we love.
These are things I want to notice and receive.
I believe that when we welcome joy, we invite the energy of miracles into our lives. We allow ourselves to be surprised by goodness. We give inspiration somewhere to land. We remember that the future may hold something we have not yet imagined.
This week, I invite you to make a little room for something you enjoy.
Let it matter because it matters to you.
And when that moment comes, let yourself be there for it.
Peace, Love, and Grace,
Rev. Sheri
