As some of you probably already know, my husband’s car was stolen a little over a month ago.  He was in Detroit, Michigan, for work.  He had to cover the Democratic convention that was going on and was down there for two nights.  When he went to get his car from the valet lot on Monday morning, they couldn’t find his car.  What fun, right?  Yeah, not really.

It’s quite a long story, but we purchased a new car this past Tuesday … an ’07 Saturn Aura, and we got a really good deal.  Wednesday was the first day my husband drove the new car to work, and he was so happy to have everything finally settled.  (The insurance company wasn’t exactly a pleasure to work with.)  Wednesday afternoon, not even 24 hours after signing papers on the new car, the Detroit police called him and said they found our car.  Now, the car that we bought new in 2002, and have painstakingly taken care of since then, belongs to our insurance company and will likely be sold for scrap metal.  My husband was really upset about it, understandably so.  Yes, it is just a car, but it’s also one more weird and negative thing that’s happened to us … depending on how you look at it.

So, my dear husband was upset about the car being stolen and shortly destroyed and now having a car payment, but I started laughing at the news.  The look on his face was priceless.  “What are you laughing about?”  He asked me.  “It’s not funny.”

“Yes, it is.”  I couldn’t believe it was coincidence.  If the police had called only 20 hours earlier, we could have claimed our old car and moved forward, but what type of situation would that have created for us?  Who knew what had been done to the car?  There was damage at least to the driver’s side lock and ignition.  I think there was most definitely a reason the car wasn’t found earlier.  As much of a pain as it has been, we did get a really nice and dependable new car.  Though we now have a car payment where we didn’t before, I have no doubt that things are as they need to be for some reason.  I still have to laugh about it, too.  If I can’t laugh at all the ridiculous things that life throws at me sometimes, I think I’d lose my mind!  I need to hold onto my mind.  I really don’t want to have to deal with the claims department on that one!  😉

Wishing you all laughter amidst the craziness,

Sheri

    Hello Sheri

I agree with what you say “there is always a reason” I must add “out with the old and in with the new’! This definately bring new magic into our lives even at the time it causes us to worry more yet in the long term we enjoy the fruits of these changes we make.

    Enjoy the new car!
    Love and light to you
