We’ve made so much progress on our new house. Today, Ayers Basement Systems completed the waterproofing of our very old basement. The house was built in 1900. It was completely gutted and remodeled in 2002. (Only one original wall was left.) So, basically it’s a new house, but the foundation is really old and really wet. We joked about putting in a pool because it was literally flooded all the time. After the basement flooding at our current house and losing many of our belongings, we knew this was a priority. They said it will be dry enough that you could finish it with carpeting and all, but we won’t need to do that.
All the rooms we are going to paint prior to moving are done. My bedroom is “Green Tea”, and it’s beautiful! My husband actually picked out the color … or so he says. My son’s room is red and blue; he picked out the colors and is so proud of himself. There will still be rooms to paint, but those are spaces that can easily be painted after moving. It’s much harder to paint a bedroom full of furniture than a dining room with only a table and chairs.
The plan for this week is cleaning from top to bottom, painting some of the trim that will be harder to get to once furniture is in and finishing packing. It seems I’ve gotten a little too wrapped up in preparing the new house, and I forgot about packing the rest of our stuff. It shouldn’t take that long, but I started out being really organized, and I don’t think the last round of boxes is going to be done quite as well. I think we’ve entered the “just throw it in a box” phase of packing.
We do still have a few repairs that need to be made yet, but that will have to wait until the week after we move. It’s too overwhelming to do everything at once. There’s a long unfinished porch that runs the length of the front of the house, and our insurance company wants that fixed right away. There’s also a dying tree they want cut down because it’s so close to the house. Some of the other trees are hanging into the neighbors yards, and the flower beds are scary. It’s amazing what can happen to a yard that’s abandoned for a year! I don’t know enough about plants to even know what everything is. There might be poison ivy, but I’m not sure what that looks like either. I think my father-in-law is going to come over and help me figure it all out.
The next update will probably be after we are moved in. Oh, I’m also not able to get my emails right now. I can only access them on my desktop pc, which is having some issues right now. My husband won’t have time to fix it until after we move. So, if you’ve emailed me, it’s going to take longer than usual to get a reply. I can still access my “Ask Sheri” submissions through my laptop, though. I hope to answer one of those questions yet tonight.
Until next time,
Sheri
