Yes, you read that right! With all the illnesses circulating in my town, it leaves one wondering if the Zombie Apocalypse might have already started. My son was sick over the weekend with what I believe they are calling the Norovirus, and I kept him home from school yesterday. I found out from another mom that only 27 (out of 45) kids were in class. We actually cancelled basketball for our team yesterday because there are so many people sick. The Michigan Department of Community Health has even called some parents due to these illnesses. Honestly, I’m tempted to keep my son home from school just so we don’t get anything else.
My husband has been sick, too. Both he and my son have been home these past two days. My poor husband has the same symptoms I had when I started getting sick with what had me down for a month. That is a concern, but we are being as proactive as we can be. I had wanted to take my husband in to the doctor today, but their phone isn’t working. There’s just an automated recording saying, “The number you have reached has been disconnected.” That cannot be good, right? Anyway, we’re just doing the best we can with what we’ve got.
As far as the Zombie Apocalypse goes, I do believe there is something going on where maybe someone in high places somewhere wants people to get these illnesses. Maybe they want us to build up an immunity, or maybe we’re some kind of science experiment. I don’t really want to think about the latter, so I’ll hope for the former.
A friend sent me a link to a funny but useful article from the CDC on the Zombie Apocalypse, and I’ve declared that it’s time to get prepared!

It’s challenging to stay well with sick kids coming into school and people coming in sick to work all the time, then you go to the grocery store and people are hacking all over the place- yuk. Best wishes to your family for a speedy recovery.
wow, great to know educators go classroom to classroom with an abacus to get their enrollment census done ! very creative method~~~~~~sure hope the math dept is healthy !
You’re exactly right, Marlee. Around here, people are sending their kids back to school while they still have fevers. Honestly, I think part of it is that parents don’t have any other options. Employers are not exactly as understanding as they used to be. They don’t care if your kid is sick, they just want you at work doing your job.
I’m lucky that I work for myself. If my kid is sick, he doesn’t go to school. Actually, I just received an email from our school letting us know that tomorrow is count day. They need as many kids as possible in school tomorrow in order for them to count for grants from the state. With only half the class showing up yesterday, this does not bode well for our grants this year.

It is that time of year when viruses spread like wild fire. Everyone is stuck inside, our bodies are stressed from the holiday season and worn out due to winter. What people don’t realize is that they should be staying home for 48 hours after the last onset of vomiting/and or diarrhea. Many just send their kids back to school the day after the illness, but what they don’t understand is that the virus is still present in the body for up to 48 hours or more even after the last episode of being ill. All I can say is plenty of rest, vitamins (zinc), water and thorough handwashing!!
