“I hope that you can help me. I have reached a point in my life where I feel lost … I would like to be working in media … [and] would like to get into writing also. I am constantly applying for jobs in this area but I do not get any interviews … I wake up every morning depressed that I have to go to work. I hate it! … I know the market is bad right now but I know there are jobs out there. I feel stuck … The past couple of months have been really tough mainly at work. I feel like I take 1 step forward and 3 steps back and it is not through lack of trying. I am not afraid of hard work. I have a lot of ambition but not a lot of opportunity.

I am considering leaving the U.K. because I think maybe this destination is holding me back. I feel lost and unsure of my next move as I feel that I have tried all avenues. I just feel like giving up. I guess what I am asking is how do I become unstuck and Happy?”

It’s interesting to hear someone outside the U.S. with such a problem because it seems like more than half this country has the same issue. Not enough jobs are available because so many have lost their jobs and then filtered into other markets, thus taking jobs from others.  It’s a messy cycle, that’s for sure, but things are slowly getting better here as they will for you.  Do you have a connection to the U.S.?  Are you originally from here or have family here?  I don’t know why, but I feel like you do or maybe it’s possible you will have a connection down the road.

Anyway, one of the first things I noticed when reading your question was the overwhelming feeling of confusion.  I think it’s possible that you might be fighting the flow of the river here.  You have been trying … you’ve been trying VERY hard, and that may be part of the problem.  You are determined and focused, which can be a great thing, but it can also blind you to opportunities and even cause you to repel potential opportunities because you’re too focused in one area.  I don’t think, however, that there has been a major missed opportunity.  This seems more like timing has not been on your side, but you need to keep yourself balanced and open to opportunities that may soon present themselves.  Expand your net, too.  I feel like you are either looking in the wrong places, or there’s something you’re not considering.

You are a highly creative person, and you would do well in any creative field that involves communication.  Both writing and media resonate with your energy.  As for getting a job, I think you’re going about it wrong.  We know what you’re doing now isn’t working, so lets stop and re-think the strategy.  One thing I will tell you is that networking seems to be key.  Focus on meeting people and expressing who you are and your interests more than focusing so much on the need for a new job.  This is sort-of like a woman who’s dating to find a husband.  She doesn’t just approach any attractive man and ask if he’s looking to settle down and have kids; there’s a strategy, a process.

You are obviously miserable in your job, and you feel like you’re wasting your time there no doubt.  You need to view your “job” as what it is – a way to support yourself until the right opportunity presents itself.  This job isn’t your dream; it isn’t your life’s purpose.  Emotionally separate yourself from your job, and see it for what it is.  Understand that it’s only a temporary solution, and have faith that it is just that.  I know this job started off as temporary, but your fear has cemented it in more than you realize.  Let go of your fear about not getting an opportunity.  Be open to possibilities, and understand that “everything will happen in it’s own time”.  That last bit is a quote from one of your guardian angels, and I won’t take credit for it because I don’t like it when they give me lines about being patient.  I just want things to happen when I’m ready for them to happen, and I know you feel the same way in this situation.  I know it’s frustrating to hear guidance about being patient right now.

It looks to me like you will have to be patient for a few more months, but as you get closer to your next birthday, you are likely to find more success in your career and finding a new job.  This doesn’t necessarily mean that it won’t happen before your next birthday, but it’s not likely.  Right now, the energy you are in doesn’t see a whole lot of action, but your energy enters an 8 year (Numerologically speaking) on your next birthday.  The positive influences in a 8 year include success in career and finances.  It can most definitely usher in new possibilities on the job front.  That’s great news!

I don’t see you leaving the U.K., at least not yet anyway.  Change is the best way to become “unstuck” in life, and your energy is crying out loudly for change.  That’s probably why you’re considering such a drastic move, but I don’t feel like you’ve exhausted all your resources where you are.  Starting over somewhere else will no doubt bring different opportunities, but you may also find it much more difficult than you’re expecting.  Instead of leaving the country, try some smaller scale changes – just enough to break up the monotony, especially at work.  Try a new place for lunch, take a different route home, etc.  You never know what new opportunities these little changes can lead to.

Don’t let the present drag you down like this.  Keep your head up and your eyes on your surroundings.  Thank you for writing in, and good luck with the next few months!  ;)

Abundant Blessings,

Sheri
