“For the past few years I’ve been really confused about my career. I’m currently working as a medical receptionist to pay for my bills. I do really enjoy it because I learn about a subject I’m passionate about – nutrition. I’ve qualified as a journalist and my dream was to become an international sought out holistic beauty and fashion writer for top magazines. I’ve always had this intense dream to follow my passion for fashion. I’ve even applied for work experience at a top fashion museum. However, I’ve got no confidence in myself when it comes to writing, even though I’m trying to start up the interest again.

What’s confusing me even further is that I also have an interest in naturopathy medicine. I felt that studying this would help me understand another aspect of beauty and health. I would love to do a course (2 years) but currently can’t afford it. … I’m so confused about which direction to follow. My fashion and beauty? Or my naturopathic medicine?

Everyone wants to know their life’s purpose – what they’re meant to do in this life, but the truth is that it’s not usually a simple answer. When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a teacher. My current profession is a complicated collection of different fields of study. I’m not exactly a teacher, but I do teach, and I know my drive to be a teacher helped me find my way to this point. You will be happy doing anything that gives you purpose in aiding humanity in some way. You have talents and passions that will lead you in the right direction, but you’re allowing fear to get in your way. It’s important to remember that fear is only an illusion driven toward hindering our plans for self-growth on oh so many levels. So many times, clients will tell me that they think their current job is simply wasted time, but that’s usually not the case. Like with your current job, you are meant to be there, learning what you’re learning.

As for your question … Fashion & Beauty or Naturopathic Medicine? Well, saying that one has nothing to do with the other is like saying that being a spiritual counselor has nothing to do with teaching. The two can blend together like the ingredients in a fine wine. You just have to know how to blend them properly. How do you do that, you ask. Practice, patience and confidence. You need to practice writing and research everything that interests you. I’m not so sure you need the formal classes you’re asking about, by the way. This is something you can learn in your own way. I’m not saying education has no merit, but there are some things that can be learned without paying someone else thousands. You must also be patient with yourself. Our life purpose does not unfold overnight nor is it set out in one distinct idea. Rather, it is a culmination of life events that create our destiny now and in the future. And confidence – need I say more? You already admitted you have no confidence. Write articles under a pseudo name. Post them to online article sources or create your own website or blog. No one needs know it’s you. It’s easier to have confidence in a person you created, even if it is only yourself hiding behind a mask. Think about it. Who are you now but a person wearing a mask? You’re certainly not yourself. Follow the path that brings you joy. Read everything that interests you, and write … write … and write some more.
