Ask Sheri – Curious Nanny

“I’ve been thinking of doing a childcare course for a while now but its bit expensive as I am unemployed.  I wouldn’t mind the cost if I thought id be able [to pay] for it.  Could you please help and advise me?  Look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you.”  – Curious Nanny

Dear Curious Nanny,

While working with children is in itself a rewarding experience, shelling out extra money right now might not be the best idea … unless you have a good game plan.  From what I am seeing, it appears to me that this class is not a necessity for what you do or plan to do.  You could wait and save up money.

However, I also see that using education to enhance your work or enabling yourself to offer something else in addition could turn out to be lucrative.  You’ve probably had a few different ideas for things you’d like to start lately, but make sure you have a solid plan before you take off down any given road.  How will this class help you?  Will it benefit your financial situation?  Or, is it going to be an extra bill for information you already had?  Is this class a necessity?  If it is a necessity, you might want to consider waiting a bit to save money or at least make a good plan for how this class will help your work and better your life.

As for being unemployed, now may be the time to start thinking about how you can turn ideas into reality.  You are good at coming up with ideas; you just need a little extra thought and planning when it comes to implementing those ideas.  Brainstorm possibilities.  Don’t just jump off the platform with the first thought that pops into your head, but make a plan and see it through.  Self-employment might not be a bad place to start.  Being self-employed means your plan needs extra attention, but it’s much better than being unemployed.

Wishing you abundant energy,

Sheri
