Yesterday I spent some time “intuitive writing” in the morning. It’s a process where I sit quietly, clear my mind, and then allow whatever flows through me to be written down. I like to do this with a real pen and paper, and I usually ask a question first. Yesterday it was, “What healing choice can I make today that will be a happy one?”

The intuitive process led me to feel drawn to Finley Sanctuary, a place where I love to walk and I haven’t been in a while. So I put on a sweater, grabbed my camera and drove a few miles out to the bird sanctuary.

It was a rain misted semi warm day, beautiful and lush green. I passed heron and geese enjoying lakes, hawks flying and sitting in trees, rushing streams and muddy swamps. I passed mossy trees and little new springs of water bursting from the mud from recent rain. A full inhale brought with it a smell of earthy wet sweetness- I began to feel more energized and happy.

Elk for Fawns Letting Go postAs I drove along the dirt road toward a favorite hiking trail I glanced up a soft green bank and saw the hilltop above covered by a herd of Elk! I stopped my car and got out, walking carefully up a slippery slope with my camera in hand. There were at least fifty of them, prancing and dancing as they moved in unison. Their heads would all turn the same way at once and back at the same time. They’d stop and start together all at once.

They marched along the hilltop then down the hill and across the road in front of me. The females moved swiftly and the large buck with a huge rack jutting out like rugged tree limbs from his head, lagged behind them all. He was a picture perfect majestic silhouette against the overcast sky, a solo elk moving out of unison from the rest of the herd.

I watched as they galloped across a field then dove straight into a lake and swam across it. They climbed up the banks on the opposite side and disappeared beyond view. The buck stopped and turned his head back toward me before leaping in the air with power and grace as he rushed after his harem.

This morning I sat on this New Moon of endings and beginnings and began a process of intuitive writing again. My question today was, “How do I choose happy again today, as I go through a process of grieving, letting go and moving on from certain areas of my life?”

The answer was once again directed back to Finley Sanctuary – the herd I saw yesterday – the buck standing alone against the sky. I wrote:

“Focus on the next good step. Think of the beauty you shared. Honor the image of the Elk and allow the glory of them running past you and out of sight to represent the beautiful impermanence of what just happened…
Unique, Wild, Raw,
Disconnected from domestic common sense,
A rare sharing of a moment in time,
A gift,
Full of amazement and innocence,
Untouchable & fleeting,
View what you are letting go of right now as if it is this herd of wild elk.
Remember the Buck as he glanced backward toward you and then moved onward, as is his nature.
Feel gratitude and understanding. Let go.”

Wow. Okay!
