Am I Praying Correctly

Am I Praying Correctly?

from our Angel Messenger Creative Team

Let me tell you a little story. Long ago, you walked up to your Heavenly Father expressing a desire to experience life on planet Earth. Your father was reluctant to let you go – what if you wandered too far away and couldn’t hear him call out your name anymore – what if you lost your way back Home?

Your Pact with God
You said you’ll never lose sight of His Heavenly hands no matter how far you go into the world. Hesitatingly, he capitulated, “Alright my child, if that’s what you wish. Please keep talking to me every day.”

Right then and there, you made a pact with your Heavenly Father to call Home every day. Prayer is indeed your communion with God. It’s an instant telephone line that connects you to Him. Your intentions form the cable of that telephone line. The moment you intend to be connected, you are connected.

There is absolutely no right or wrong way to pray. The moment you start speaking to Him, He is listening to you. However, you must quieten the dissonance in your mind to hear him clearly. Just like the moon gets perfectly reflected in a pond when the waters are still, God’s voice reaches you in those moments when the thought ripples of your mind have been quelled.

God Always Answers You
Trust me, God always answers you! However, the real problem is that you might not be ready to hear his answers. His answer is often not the satisfaction of our immediate desires but it lies in serving our highest good. Just like your human parents might have refused to buy you something that wasn’t good for you, in the long run, God sometimes does not grant us those wishes that might not serve our highest good.

You Must Meditate
This is why meditation is so important. The right kind of meditation practice is an act of sweet surrender – letting go of yourself so that God can work through you. When you meditate, you learn to quieten your mind. Once the relentless chatter of your mind has ceased, you are finally able to hear the voice of God. It’s like cleaning your dirty window screen – the magical view has always been there, it was your window that had become fogged with ignorance and suffering.

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.” – Psalm 19:14

In meditation, you must surrender to God – give your life over to Him. You have to trust that whatever he is doing is meant for your highest good. It’s a good idea to set aside a specific time and place for meditation but your prayers must continue every moment of every day.

The Ego’s Trap
Wondering whether you are praying correctly or not is the ego’s way of keeping you away from your Heavenly Father. Trust that he is listening to you because he really is!

Praying for Fulfillment of Your Wishes is Like Mailing a Letter
I read somewhere that a prayer is like a letter – it cannot reach the recipient until you’ve mail it. How do you mail a letter? You go the mail box and drop it in. Thereafter, you simply trust that it will reach the recipient. Imagine what would happen if you kept holding on to the letter just wishing for it to reach the recipient?

You can’t send a letter to another person without letting go of it completely. Similarly, once you have stated your wish or desire, you must let go of it completely. Continue to visualize a positive outcome. In your mind’s eye, see everything as if it has already happened. Believe it or not, the only thing standing between you and the fulfillment of your desires is the boulder of your own doubts. When you shift your energy from that of doubt and anxiety to one of gratitude and faith, your dreams are bound to come true.

Who is God?
God is not a person but a state of consciousness. The eternal wisdom of the Vedas state, “Aham Brahmasmi” or “I am that I am.” The Bible also says, “The kingdom of God is within you.”

The Divine resides inside your own heart, the Divine is YOU. It is the ego’s ploy to make you perceive Him as separate from you. He is listening to you every moment of every day because believe it or not, He is in you.

Praying is an act of surrender. You must surrender to God – to the Divinity within you. In surrender, there are no doubts, no questions. The ego will prevent you from surrendering, the ego will fill you with doubts. Don’t listen to it. Just try surrendering for a week and tell me if your life doesn’t change!

What Makes a Perfect Prayer?
Remember, it’s not the words that matter but the intention that counts.  A perfect prayer is one that comes from the heart – it is strung together by the intensity of your emotions and it is delivered by the vigor of your faith.

Trust and let go because God is listening to you right now at this very moment. He is always there, always listening to you – this is how it has been and this is how it will always be. Hush the intrusive cacophony of your ego because your Heavenly Father is talking to you even Now through the words on this page!
